Time limits for making an Employment Claim

There are strict time limits for making a claim to an employment tribunal. In most cases, you have three months minus one day from the date the problem at work happened.

Timeline

Step 1

If you feel that your case relates to any of the practice areas listed above, you should submit an appointment request form online. Make sure to include as much detail as possible to avoid any delays in processing your application.

Step 2

Once submitted, your application will be processed by the Justice Hub Professional Services team and then reviewed by Academic Supervisors who will confirm if the Legal Advice Centre will be able to assist you with your case.

Step 3

If approved, an appointment will be arranged for you, and the Professional Services team will contact you and send you the details of your appointment. This appointment can either be held in person, or via a video call.

Please note that your appointment email will also include a Client Agreement form that you will need to complete ahead of your appointment, otherwise your appointment will not go ahead.

Step 4

During your appointment, you will meet with two or three student advisors, supervised by a member of academic staff or a volunteer lawyer.

Legal advice cannot be given during the meeting but will be provided to you after the meeting in an advice letter.

Step 5

Following the appointment the student advisors will research your legal issue and may request further information or documents from you. Once the letter of advice is ready and has been approved by the supervisor it will normally be sent to you via e-mail encrypted with a password. This can take up to 2-4 weeks.
